Due to our current staffing levels, Mount Mourne Fire Department is currently not accepting any new part-time paid or 18+ years old volunteer applicants at this time. Please check back at a later date for any updates. Qualifications for those who are interested are still listed below. Our Junior Firefighter application is still open for any volunteers ages 16-18 years old, and can be found below.

- Must be a legal United States citizen
- Must have a High School Diploma
- May also possess a GED or equivalent in lieu of a High School Diploma
- Must pass a department issued criminal/background check and drug test
- Must pass a physical examination and physical fitness test
- Must have, or be willing to commit to taking, North Carolina Firefighter and EMT certification classes
- Not certified? You can still volunteer! Timelines for taking classes will be discussed upon becoming a member.

Junior Firefighter
Are you between the ages of 16 and 18 years old? Do you have an interest in learning about the fire service? Look no further, as our Junior Firefighter application link is located below! Follow the list below to see if you qualify!
- Must be between the ages of 16 and 18 years old
- Must be a legal United States citizen
- Must have at least a “C” in all academic courses at the time of application
- Must have a Parental Consent/Release form signed by a parent/legal guardian
- Must have a parent/legal guardian present at the formal interview
- Must review and sign a copy of the Junior Volunteer Manual agreeing to abide by the document
- Candidate and parent/legal guardian must review and be aware of the basic training requirements in the Junior Volunteer program
- Basic training requirements include a Blood Borne Pathogens class, a CPR class and subsequent certification, and the NIMS (National Incident Management System) 100, 200, 700, & 800 courses provided by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency)
- Must pass a department issued criminal/background check and drug test
